How to update?
Visual.
Through temporal rifts in time that may suddenly rip in the vicinity of dragonsworn, a character can see the events of their future take place. While this doesn't give them any physical differences (no scars, powers, etc), it does give them an idea of what's taking place back at their home away from home. Characters may interpret this as an alternate future that may be available to them, should they defeat the Burning Legion.
Canon updating this way doesn't require the character to disappear, though they could wander around a bit to collect their thoughts.
Physical.
Sometimes a character may happen upon a temporal rift by accident, and find themselves pulled through (as opposed to simply witnessing the events taking place). The Bronze Dragonflight does what they can to keep these rifts stable, but with so many different worlds tied into their own, they can't keep up entirely. Once trapped inside, a character will be whisked away back to their world to endure the events themselves.
Characters who are physically altered in any way must describe these changes and make sure the powers are spelled out concisely. Much like with the application process, they will have to figure out how to best sort their abilities to fit in the world of Azeroth.
